Testosterone so much more than for libido

Testosterone so much more than for libido

Did you know that oestrogen is produced from Testosterone?

Oestrogens are produced from androgen hormones including testosterone and androstenidone and requires aromatase enzyme to create this reaction. All enzymes are facilitators for biochemical reactions, these are coded by our genes. Enzymes rely on vitamins and minerals to be effective.

Therefore, some of us are more susceptible to produce more testosterone than others, due to diet, lifestyle and a lesser amount genetics. Testosterone is not just for libido, though also important for COGNTION, ENERGY, STAMINA AND MUSCLE1 and has been observed as a preventative for breast cancer (2021 Donovitz and Cotton, European Journal of Breast Health). https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8025725/.

I encourage you to read this paper if you are interested in the science. There is a lot of research on hormone therapy not only for menopause but also for transgender therapy. Research stated that oestrogen therapy alone without testosterone lowered testosterone levels. This makes sense, as the body constantly communicates via the brain to regulate all levels of hormones - these include blood glucose, cortisol, oestrogen, progesterone anD TESTOSTERONE. This is known as a negative feedback loop. If the body is receiving too much oestrogen (which derives from Testosterone), it would make sense that a signal back to the brain would lower production of androgenic hormones.

Women produce testosterone in ovaries, peripheral tissues and adrenal glands. Testosterone cream is only available at the discretion of your GP not all GP practices prescribe this. Always ask for a testosterone blood test along with sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) to check for free Testosterone (because if SHBG is elevated, then testosterone will be bound and not active) .
