The idea of every calorie equals the same, is an antiquated idea that promotes eating disorders and an unhealthy relationship with food. The fats from foods shouldn't even be called "fats" as we have such a misunderstanding about these essential nutrients. If we eat too many refined carbohydrates, sugars and fizzy drinks then this get's stored in our fat cells. Think of our fat cells as cupboards that just get bigger as the more we snack, the more the fat cells expand. The correct term for this is lipids or hyperlipidemia which leads to insulin resistance and disease and early aging.
Fats in our foods are healthy especially in the form of unsaturated fats from oily fish, avocadoes, nuts, seeds and cold pressed oils. These are essential for brain, metabolism, skin and joints and are antiaging. There is around 3kg of gut bacteria residing in your gut which has been linked to metabolism.
Extra Virgin Olive oil is also a nutraceutical as it has a natural pharmacological effect on the body by reducing inflammation, supporting microbiome, increasing absorption of nutrients, stimulating detoxification and increasing HDL the good cholesterol and lowering the LDL, unwanted cholesterol.
I promise you no one has ever gained weight through eating too many avocadoes or excess extra virgin olive oil. Eating unsaturated fats with every meal helps reduce cravings, increases metabolism to help you thrive.
