It's that time of year when there are so many colds driven by viruses. There is good reason for old fashioned remedies to wrap up warm in bed, as this boosts the immune system, to fight off the virus. According to a recent review, zinc supplements might prevent and decrease the duration of respiratory tract infection symptoms.

Respiratory tract infections can develop due to bacteria or viruses and include influenza, the common cold, and COVID-19.

Researchers are constantly examining treatment options that could improve the symptoms, shorten their duration, or prevent them entirely.

Foods high in zinc are Oysters, meats, fish, lentils, tofu and seeds. A starting dosage through the winter of 30mg of Zinc per day will support the prevention of cold, severity and duration.
Research suggests increasing to 75mg of zinc whilst having the cold may prevent the virus from spreading to the respiratory tract.
